Richmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.’s (TSE: MDA) subsidiary company, Triathlon, has signed a land information contract with the City of San José, California.
Triathlon will provide detailed land information of the region, which will eventually be used to correct existing geographic and cadastral data bases. These are used to help develop and maintain the infrastructure of the Silicon Valley region.
The project is a multi-phase program with funding coming from a consortium of users including the City of San José, County of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
The first phase, worth $600,000 (CDN) was awarded to Triathlon in January 2001 and focused on data acquisition. This phase involving data production is expected to be completed July 31, 2002, and is valued at $1.7 million (CDN).
"These images will enable the City of San José and the greater Silicon Valley area to increase the accuracy and usefulness of our maps for planning and engineering purposes, facilitate data sharing opportunities and allow us to better utilize Automatic Vehicle Location and Global Positioning System technology." stated Kevin Briggs, Infrastructure Section Manager for the City's Department of Public Works.
