MaplicitySDK Provides First Complete Java Solution For ArcIMS Developers/Integrators

Toolkit Fuels Browser-based Maplicity Software Revolutionizing Geospatial Web Solutions

Berkeley, CA USA -- Telemorphic, Inc. today released MaplicitySDK, the first complete Java software developers' toolkit for rapid development and deployment of enhanced Internet GIS and image processing solutions based on ESRI's (Redlands, CA) ArcIMS. MaplicitySDK includes the latest version of the award-winning Maplicity (Version 3.1b), which combines full-featured GIS, image analysis and visualization functionality in a low cost, lightweight Web browser-based applet.

MaplicitySDK is the affordable solution for incorporating Maplicity's extensive GIS and imaging capabilities into custom ArcIMS-based applications, giving Web developers/GIS solutions integrators access to all Java libraries necessary for building powerful Internet GIS and image processing applets and applications. MaplicitySDK includes over 100 Java classes, complete Javadoc, Users' Guide and the source code for Telemorphic's OpenApplet and Maplicity applets.

"With MaplicitySDK, Internet GIS solutions integrators have the tools they need to build custom 100% pure Java solutions for ArcIMS that meet their customers' requirements," said Andrew Waxman, Telemorphic's chief technology officer. "MaplicitySDK offers the Java 'write once, run anywhere' simplification as well as an extensible object oriented development option for creating robust custom Internet GIS solutions. This means GIS developers can focus on GIS and not worry about server operating system compatibility or writing code that works with every potential Web browser."

MaplicitySDK is a logical addition to the Maplicity product line, which was released in July 2001 and immediately recognized for its innovative Internet GIS functionality as a Finalist in ESRI's Geography Network Challenge. Most recently, the Maplicity-powered Internet GIS mapping and image visualization service available through the David Rumsey Historical Map Collection (www.davidrumsey.com/gis/index.htm), was featured on TechTV and various web mapping specialty sites.

Maplicity products are built with 100% Java from Sun Microsystems, Inc (Palo Alto, CA). The Java 2 platform offers enormous potential for improving interactivity, functionality, and operating system/Web browser interoperability of Internet GIS applications when compared to existing DHTML solutions. These key factors, in addition to the actual geospatial content, are what define the Internet GIS user experience. Beyond enriching the user experience, Java solutions can dramatically reduce the development, deployment, and maintenance costs associated with Internet GIS.

Maplicity 3.1b features scalable options depending on the Internet connection and the user's level of GIS experience: full-featured Maplicity applet for the GIS professional, OpenApplet for the GIS beginner, and MaplicityHTML, which provides a non-Java option with several user enhancements to ESRI's Default HTML Viewer. A Maplicity web server license enables deployment of ArcIMS map services with any viewing option and unlimited applet downloads (view live example at www.telemorphic.com/afghan.htm).

Additionally, Maplicity 3.1b integrates the pioneering Maplicity MapImager extension, the only product that adds real-time Web browser-based image analysis and visualization capabilities to ArcIMS. Maplicity MapImager includes easy-to-use tools for custom image enhancements and georeferenced image download/distribution over the Internet. All functionality in Maplicity 3.1b is readily available to developers using MaplicitySDK. For additional information, visit Telemorphic at www.telemorphic.com or contact info@telemorphic.com.
