WORKERS
www.portableinternet.com
San Jose CA/PalmSource, February 6,2002 - Portable Internet announced today
the availability of new generation of wireless tracking and satellite
navigation products for mobile work force employers, device makers, carriers
and national brands. Raising the bar for wireless application ROI and value,
these products use advanced, occasionally connected wireless technology to
intelligently cache geo-data on smart devices like Palm's i705. Reliable
and economical GPS location services are now available over current 2G, as
well as 2.5 and 3G wireless networks.
Wireless NavigatorT is the first of Portable Internet's wireless tracking,
mapping and navigation products. Wireless Navigator offers portable GPS
audible navigation, large font turn-by-turn directions, thousands of
detailed places of interest, and area maps for a fraction of the cost of
fixed car navigation or vehicle tracking systems. Wireless Navigator can be
easily integrated with mobile dispatch or SFA applications, or customized
with the brand, business listings/reviews, street data (e.g. Navtech,
TeleAtlas, GDT, Tiger), restaurant and other content like transactions,
weather or traffic, usually in less than 30 days.
"Mobile workers say they'd be lost without us" said Mike Flom, CEO, Portable
Internet, Inc., "Our latest products set a new standard in cost-effective,
reliable and highly usable wireless applications, enabling up to 30%
increase in national brand sales, 25% increase in wireless device adoption
and usage, and 5x better ROI for mobile work force employers".
Wireless Navigator is now available for Palm i705, Handspring Treo, Samsung
I-300, Kyocera 6035, Palm VII/x and other Palm OS devices with wireless
access through modems or wireless Internet cell phones. It will also be
available this year for Java (J2ME) and BREW smart phones, wireless Windows
CE/Pocket PC and other "smart" handsets and PDA's. It can be optionally
integrated with GIS servers, e.g., from ESRI, Kivera, Mapinfo, Telcontar,
Vicinity and Webraska. Custom GPS receivers are available from Portable
Internet; E-911/A-GPS will be used in future.
The Wireless product series are intended for enterprises with mobile work
forces; embedded in Dispatch, Field Service, or Sales Force Automation
applications from companies like Siebel; offered by carriers like Verizon
Wireless or Sprint PCS, bundled with PDA, handset and GPS offerings from
Nokia, Motorola, Palm, or Compaq; or offered by national brands with
millions of mobile customers, for example, portals like AOL/Mapquest, Yahoo
or MSN; Travel brands like American Airlines, Avis, Starwood or Expedia; or
publishers like Citysearch and Zagat's.
Compared with WAP, synced or PQA directions, Wireless Navigator offers true
audible GPS navigation in 1/10th the time and cost of generating a text
route. Unlike operator or voice response navigation products, Wireless
Navigator requires only a temporary wireless connection. As a result, it is
more economical, usable, reliable and much faster than voice directions that
often have to be written down. Compared to conventional Palm OS GPS
software, Wireless Navigator provides audible navigation guidance, instant
directions in 1/100th the amount of memory without map downloads or syncing.
Going beyond disk-based or telematics-based car navigation, Wireless
Navigator is completely portable from rental car to a hotel room or taxi,
can be upgraded over the air, is much less expensive and easier to use.
GPS Wireless Navigator is available with matchbook size GPS receivers and
custom cables. These feature 45 second or less cold start time, and less
than 3 second warm-start time. The GPS receivers can also be used with
Portable Internet's synced PDA products.
A beamable, sample version available free at
www.portableinternet.com/wireless.htm. A consumer version is available
starting at $49.95/year; GPS receivers start at under $200.
