Mapflow releases details of its geographic planning & analysis services for 3G applicants

Dublin, Ireland, 12 Feb 2002: Mapflow today launched its "UMTS Toolbox" package for 3G applicants in the Irish market. The toolbox provides a series of modular components to assist carriers looking to optimise mast placement in a 3G-network environment. The toolbox provides complementary functions to existing radio cell planning solutions with a specific focus on the local requirements of the Irish market.

Citing fees in the region of €115m associated with acquiring an Irish license, Mapflow's UMTS Toolbox solution provides applicants with access to the geographic, demographic and terrain information required to plan and rapidly roll-out an optimum 3G network.

"Companies are preparing to make a very significant investment in the 3G license application process and subsequent network roll-out. This is one way to introduce additional efficiency to what is a costly and complex process" said Richard Bryce, CEO of Mapflow "In 3G, it is not simply a case of scaling the number of masts in an existing 2G network. Much of the value added business propositions associated with 3G are dependent upon ensuring an optimum network layout."

The Mapflow package addresses a variety of issues encountered by would-be license holders, including matching mast density to demand, predicting site costs, planning network deployment with respect to market penetration and complying with ODTR deployment milestones. Mapflow provides these services either on an out-sourced basis, or as part of a client site installation.

Mapflow already has proven leadership in this area, having supported a number of participants in broadband projects during 2000 and 2001, including Eircom, ESAT Telecom, Lucent and Chorus.

    About Mapflow:

Mapflow is a leading provider of location based services (LBS) and geographical information systems (GIS) technology providing a range of business support solutions to blue chip companies across Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe.

The company's flagship product, LocationAgent is a carrier grade XML and JAVA based infrastructure platform which supports wireless carriers, enterprises and portals in their delivery of location based services.

In the enterprise market, Mapflow's services team design and implements solutions combining geography, demographic and transactional data to help companies expand and grow their business.

Mapflow also builds, maintains and aggregates unique content (maps, directories, road networks), and has extensive content partnerships with the major government and commercial data providers in Europe.
