GIS is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing data with spatial components. A GIS links several layers of data about a particular feature, including its spatial location, in order to increase our knowledge about the referenced features, by combining layers of the information, exploring relationships between the features and seeking patters that may not be readily apparent.
