SSESCO's WxPortalTM Generates Over 5,000 Maps a Day for WantSomeWeather

SSESCO TEAMS WITH WANTSOMEWEATHER.COM TO MAKE UP-TO-THE-MINUTE WEATHER FORECASTS AFFORDABLE FOR WEATHER SENSITIVE BUSINESSES

SAINT PAUL, MN, January 3, 2002 - SSESCO, Inc., a leading provider of products and services to the environmental and meteorological markets, announced today that it has partnered with WantSomeWeather.com, a division of Weather Eye, Inc., to generate over 5,000 graphics-intensive maps daily based on WantSomeWeather's proprietary MesocastTM forecast model.

WantSomeWeather provides NexRad radar, satellite images, hi-resolution forecasting, and severe weather information to customers in a wide array of weather sensitive industries, including farmers, snow removal companies, government municipalities, and golf courses. "With over a dozen years' experience providing weather forecasts to the public via radio stations across the country, we were ready to take the next step," says Steve Wohlenhaus, President of Weather Eye, Inc. First, though, Weather Eye would need to determine how best to transform their proprietary Mesocast weather forecasts into visually appealing maps.

Having just finished development of its WxPortalTM, an entirely new, unique and powerful way to view, analyze and explain complex weather situations, the two companies partnered to use WxPortal's system architecture to convert Mesocast into a graphical format. "WantSomeWeather is a great showcase for WxPortal, which we are launching at this month's American Meteorological Society's 82nd Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL," says Mark Ahlstrom, CEO of SSESCO. "They create the forecasts based on their proprietary model and we make them readily available for the Internet by visualizing their forecasts in an attractive and easy to understand way." WxPortal's system architecture is licensed to third-parties to quickly generate visual weather content from three- dimensional forecast models. This capability allows WantSomeWeather to rapidly deliver their custom Mesocast forecast to farmers, ski area operators, golf courses, and other weather-sensitive businesses. More than $1 trillion of the U.S. economy is weather sensitive.
