SpatialNews Press Release

Laser-Scan adds integrated topology to Oracle Spatial

Laser-Scan is creating added value by making Oracle Spatial data topologically aware.

Laser-Scan has integrated its Gothic spatial and object technology with Oracle9i's Spatial technology, using Laser-Scan's Advanced Spatial Processing Environment (ASPE). The result is topological intelligence, ensuring that spatial data is always correct.

Steven Ramage, head of Third Party Channel Development at Laser-Scan says: "This is fantastic news for Oracle Spatial customers; Laser-Scan's ASPE works behind the scenes, adding value to data, while existing GIS applications can continue unchanged. It's also an excellent opportunity for Laser-Scan to show just how versatile our technology is."

ASPE extends a standard Oracle database and provides dramatic improvements to the speed and quality of spatial data handling; Laser-Scan's dynamic topology manager is stored in the host database, creating a server-side topological solution for handling the structure of spatial information. This development dramatically improves services to mainstream Information Technology (IT) users; the vast benefits offered by the world of GIS will be available to everyone, not just specialists. ASPE also introduces the enhanced topology management capability necessary for location-based applications.

Customers can continue to build their Geographic Information System (GIS) functionality, but now take advantage of advanced spatial processing on the server-side, enabling rich functionality in an ultra-thin client through existing IT investments.

The ASPE product enables a move beyond the traditional GIS-centric market and, more specifically for Laser-Scan, a move away from proprietary GIS solutions towards mainstream RDBMS. ASPE makes a crucial element of Laser-Scan's technology available to the mainstream IT market place. Moreover, all major GIS vendors can access the ASPE solution using their own desktop GIS products.

Laser-Scan is exhibiting ASPE at Oracle AppsWorld, 15-18 January, Amsterdam. Visit stand 615 to find out more. www.laser-scan.com
