CARIS Training Course Introduces IHO S-57 Standard for ENC Production

Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada - CARIS is hosting a five-day training course to introduce the IHO S-57 Standard for ENC Production March 18-22, 2002 at the Minerals Management Services Facilities in Herndon, VA.

Participants will be introduced to the International S-57 Standard, for digital hydrographic data transfer and for Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) Production.

Basis for course development has been CARIS' considerable experience working with Government and National Hydrographic Offices and other ENC data producers and users in Canada, the USA, and worldwide.

The technical training course considers the S-57 data production workflow, data structuring requirements, S-57 object creation, and quality control procedures. It also includes practical exercises using CARIS Hydrographic Object manager (HOM), the world's leading S-57 ENC production software.

Topics presented in this course include: overview of electronic charting background theory and concepts; introduction to the S-57 Standard; the ENC Product Specification contained within the S-57 Standard; and a discussion of S-57 data production workflow, data structuring and layering, S-57 object encoding, data management and QA/QC.

This training course is open to all interested parties. While there are no prerequisites, a background working with hydrographic and marine data and digital mapping systems would be useful.
