Earth Resource Mapping announced it's support for Sun Microsystems SPARC platform by developing a Solaris 8 version of its ECW Software Development Kit (SDK). The simple to use ECW SDK allows developers to add decompression of ECW images to their Solaris applications.
This SDK release enhances ECW's position as the de-facto standard for geo-spatial image compression and distribution, with support now available in over 50 applications on the three most popular platforms in use within the industry (Solaris, Windows and Macintosh).
ECW provides up to 100:1 multi-band compression at speeds up to 50% faster than its closest competitor. The ECW format also provides viewing that is 300% faster than any other wavelet-based compression format, thus adding the ability to efficiently deal with gigabyte sized image files.
Simon Cope, CTO Internet Technologies said, 'This enables a new level of enterprise applications to take advantage of our market leading geo-spatial compression technologies'.
The free ECW SDK's and plug-ins can be downloaded from www.ermapper.com.
