Dialogue wins SMS Award for Xerox Field Service SMS implementation

Dialogue Communications has swept the boards at the first text messaging/SMS Awards held in the UK by winning the SMS Award for “Best Practise For Business Application”

Organised in association with the MDA, New Media Age and Penton's m-CommerceWorld, the inaugural awards took place on 13th February 2002 at Olympia 2, London. The Awards were presented by Mike Short ,Chairman of the MDA, David Lock, Director of the MDA, Jon Silk, Editor of the m-CommerceWorld portal, Mike Grenville, CEO 160 Characters.org.

Dialogue won the award for the SMS implementation leading to the mobile enablement of Xerox European field service engineering operations. Using Dialogue’s Expressway messaging platforms Xerox’s Welcome Centres are able to communicate customer requirements to Xerox Field Service Engineers. All the required customer information is sent from The Welcome Centre to a central data collection point known as Auto Destination. This database integrates seamlessly with Dialogue's mobile messaging solution and automatically transmits a text message to all relevant engineers located close to the customer's premises. Any engineer within this area can accept the job by replying with a text message. The acceptance of a job is logged by the system and the information is made available to the other engineers so that they can see who is dealing with it.

Therefore, all necessary information can be conveyed within the confines of the 160-character maximum available on a text message. A standard message will include the type of call out, customer postcode, telephone number, contact point, reported fault and even the serial number of the machine and the contracted service level.

Commenting on the reasons why Dialogue got the award Jon Silk one of the judges for the SMS Awards and editor of m-Commerce World said “For their understanding of the limitations presented by 160 characters of text and for creating a field service structure on a truly international scale, Dialogue Communications were the deserved winner of the 'Best Practice in Business Application' category."

“Dialogue has been working in association with leading mobile operators to deliver SMS based critical business applications to their corporate customers” This award proves the value of SMS in making business communications efficient and reducing costs.” Said Paul Griffiths, Director Marketing, Dialogue Communications.

Dialogue messaging solutions are also being used by several other companies like NCR and Unisys to make field service engineering communication efficient and cost effective. Dialogue’s strength is in mobile enabling existing fixed applications by maximising use of technical resources already available in the enterprise and simplifying the complexity of mobile messaging over SMS and WAP
