CENTRE FOR TOPOGRAPHIC INFORMATION NEW PRODUCT: CANIMAGE

Sherbrooke (Quebec), March 14, 2002 - The Centre for Topographic Information in Sherbrooke (CTI-S), part of the Earth Sciences Sector within Natural Resources Canada, has initiated production of orthoimages with the support of GeoConnections.

CanImage is a raster product containing resampled Landsat 7 orthoimages at 15 metres, based on the National Topographic System (NTS) at the 1:50 000 scale. This product is distributed in GeoTIFF format. Users can choose a combination of three spectral bands, an enhancement, as well as the projection for the orthoimages.

CanImage is available through the CTI-S Web site e-commerce service, or by subscribing to our Digital Topographic Data beginning April 1st 2002. Each orthoimage covers between 20 and 30 NTS map sheets. By the end of March 2004, 650 images will be processed, representing approximately 13 000 NTS map sheets at the 1:50 000 scale.

For the Centre and the federal government, CanImage represents the continued delivery of products geared to experienced data users, in an effort to promote more complex aspects of geomatics.

We invite you to learn more about this new product on our web site at: http://www.CTIS.NRCan.gc.ca
