New mapping horizons from Brazil

Orbisat da Amazônica S.A. of Sao José dos Campos, Brazil has successfully established a new division: Orbisat Remote Sensing, which is located in Campinas, Brazil and will be responsible for Orbisat´s remote sensing activities in the future.

Orbisat RS is currently finalizing the construction of an airborne Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar system (InSAR). Dr. Joao Moreira, the technical director of the company and his highly sophisticated international team, are going to use this high-end system for worldwide mapping of the earth's surface (DEMs) in order to generate spatial information data sets and various kinds of maps.

The unique horizontal and vertical precision of the data allows an automated Ortho-SAR image generation, including digital ground as well as digital surface contour lines. The advanced system is capable of producing mapping data during the day and at night, even in areas that are permanently covered by clouds. In addition, it can retrieve data below dense forests, which makes it one of the most cost-efficient mapping technologies ever developed.

Orbisat RS has recently entered a strategic partnership with Infoterra GmbH of Germany, which is one of Europe’s leading providers of geo-information products and -services. In addition, Orbisat RS cooperates with various other industry-leading companies (e.g. Digimapas, Brazil; Infostrata, Brazil and others), and will thus be able to serve the world market in a fast, comprehensive and competitive way.
