ORBIMAGE Releases New Version of OrbMap(TM) Software

Version 5.0 Features GPS Interface, Fish Finding Wizard, Altimetry Data and Multiple Language Support for Worldwide Commercial Fishermen

(DULLES, VA - 13 May 2002) ORBIMAGE announced today the release of Version 5.0 of its OrbMap software in support of its SeaStarSM Fisheries Information Service. This service combines the world’s highest quality plankton data from ORBIMAGE’s OrbView-2 satellite with other meteorological and ocean data to provide digital maps that significantly improve the efficiency of finding fish for high seas fishing vessels. OrbMap software was developed as a decision making tool for fishing fleet captains to easily view and manipulate ocean information from the OrbView-2 SeaWiFS sensor.

New features of OrbMap Version 5.0 include:

    • Fish Finding Wizard – OrbMap 5.0 provides step-by-step procedures to combine information layers that help each captain improve their identification of high probability fishing areas.

    • GPS Interface – OrbMap 5.0 now features the ability to track and log the vessel’s position on their Fish Finding Maps through its new Global Positioning System (GPS) interface.

    • International Language Support – OrbMap 5.0 and detailed training videos on CD-ROM are now available in French, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese and English.

    • Enhanced Visualization – OrbMap users can now more easily manipulate data and color displays for temperature and sea surface height, enabling better interpretation of these layers to find optimal fishing conditions.

    • Improved Sea Surface Height anomaly (SSHa) Images – SSHa (or altimetry) images, that support thermocline analysis, are now provided at a more detailed scale. OrbMap users can now combine these images with temperature and plankton data to further improve potential fishing area identification.

“Our commitment to upgrades and enhancements of OrbMap software and the SeaStar Service assures ORBIMAGE’s customers that they will be on the cutting edge of fishing information technology,” says Chris Wilson, SeaStar Sales and Marketing Manager. “Staying innovative with our products and responding to customer feedback is what keeps the SeaStar Service on the bridge of the world’s leading fishing vessels.”

Greg Hammann, Director of Product Development, adds, “OrbMap 5.0 is our most powerful and user-friendly version ever. OrbMap software is an integral part of the SeaStar Service, providing fishing captains with the ability to more easily interpret our state-of-the-art information products so they can fish more profitably.”

OrbMap 5.0 will begin shipping immediately to customers worldwide. For more information, or to subscribe to the SeaStar Fishing Information Service, contact ORBIMAGE at 703-480-7500, or seastar@orbimage.com.
