  • cityofpune.com/homepages/saprom/saprom_contact.htm
Pune,Maharashtra,India - DAYANAND INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH (DIEMR), NAVI MUMBAI and INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS(ASIA) SERVICES PVT.LTD. (ICS), MUMBAI are jointly organizing International Conference on "Alternate Learning Orientations : Future Challenges "at Hotel Le Meridian,Pune on 30th November and 1st December 2002.

The Conference will be graced by top functionaries of NCERT, CBSE, NEPA, NAAC, UGC, NBA, Directors of IIM, and many others. This information was given today by Dr. K.B. KUSHAL ,DIRECTOR-DIEMR . Around 500-550 participants from all over Maharashra are expected for this first National Conference. They will participate in the workshop on the above topic and also few may participate by presenting their papers on various topics such as Holistic Education, Schools/Colleges without Walls, Technology integrated education, Media as classroom, Democratic Education, etc. Detailed information is also available on www.diemr.org

He further said that the proposed Conference will deliberate various vital questions in the new scenario of globalization that have emerged after intensive interaction with groups of educators, R&D organizations, and other affected parties. Speakers from India and abroad, many of who have spent a lifetime as education providers have been invited to present their projections and recommendations vis-à-vis the current gaps in the system.

He said that the idea is to empower a few committed individuals who will constitute the critical mass required to initiate the chain reaction of rapid change in the way education is conceived and delivered today. The ideas and solutions presented during the conference will help us in communicating to policy-makers the contours of possible alternatives to conventional education

    SOME SUGGESTED ALTERNATIVES
1.Children must be learning primarily through experience. They must be engaging their bodies and developing their physical capacities. For young children, self -confidence, and the beginning of self-knowledge is centered in the bo
2.There must be time for children to be alone, to be quiet, to develop a relationship to their internal world, to silence, to hearing the whispers of truth that reside within.
3.Children must be educated as to how their bodies work so that they might have the opportunity for life long health.
4.Children need extensive time in nature.
5.There must be time for the individual and just as important, a focus on teamwork and community.
6.The teacher must be fully engaged in the path of self-understanding.
7.There must be a parent education program.

For schools to be worthwhile they need to have worthwhile goals such as:
  • creating independent, resourceful and fearless citizens
  • tapping the educational power of family life
  • bestowing significance on personal choices
  • arresting the epidemic of alienation and loneliness
  • restoring democracy as a natural mission
  • reversing the growing isolation of social classes
  • regenerating community life

Reforming our educational system means changing our conception of education, rather than simply modernizing schools and buying more equipment.
