City of High Point, N.C. Adds MxInsight Weather(TM) to Improve Real-Time Information and Alerts, to Improve Weather Analysis and Tracking, While Better Preparing Operations for Efficient Emergency Response

MINNEAPOLIS, July 31 - Minneapolis-based Meteorlogix, the world's largest commercial weather services provider, announced today that it is providing the City of High Point, N.C. with MxInsight GIS Weather(TM), a one-of-a-kind, Internet-based weather data information system in GIS format.

MxInsight GIS Weather provides the power to quickly and easily incorporate real-time weather information, highly-accurate forecasts and recent historical meteorological data into the available GIS software. Public safety professionals in the City of High Point will now have the ability to use the up-to-date forecasting to improve safety alerting, scheduling and contingency planning, as well as complete impact analysis and response.

Advanced forecasting capabilities will also give the more than 1,500 High Point city employees access to the most current, forecasted and historical weather data, allowing safety professionals more time to prepare the city for possible emergencies and severe weather, such as ice storms, hail, high winds and flash floods. In addition, the MxInsight GIS Weather system alerts emergency management response staff and public safety personnel to locations that will immediately be affected by sudden weather conditions such as tornadoes and hurricanes.

"The City of High Point is prepared to step to the forefront of hazardous weather protection planning," said Tom Tricot, GIS Public Safety Analyst, City of High Point, N.C. "With the added functionality of GIS data conversion and lightning strike data, High Point is poised to issue weather alerts to its public safety staff with greater confidence than ever before."

MxInsight GIS Weather makes current weather data easier to use for real- time monitoring and alerting. In particular, "corridors" are provided for storms with tornado, hail and mesocyclone potential. These corridors are fan- shaped areas projected out for 60 minutes to show the likely path of the storm and color coded to reflect the type of severe weather they contain.

MxInsight GIS Weather makes real-time weather monitoring and alerting exceptionally easy. Forecast weather data, such as Precipitation Forecasts, show predicted areas of rainfall over the next 3-84 hours for more accurate contingency planning. Current weather data, such as Severe Storm Corridors, allows professionals to assess areas likely to be affected by severe weather during the next hour for real-time monitoring and alerting purposes. Historical weather data, such as Historical Storm Corridors and Local Storm Reports, indicate areas actually affected by severe weather for more efficient impact assessment and response.

"Meteorlogix allows customers real-time weather condition tracking abilities," said Robert Gordon, chief executive officer, Meteorlogix. "MxInsight GIS Weather provides the proven reliability that public safety professionals depend on-allowing them to maintain the safety and security of the public while keeping overall costs low."
