HyVista Corp Completes Hyperspectral Work in Europe; Resumes Surveys in the USA
Printer Friendly
Over the last 6 weeks, HyVista Corp (www.hyvista.com) has been collaborating with Germany's aerospace research organization, DLR, to acquire high quality airborne hyperspectral imagery over a number of sites in Spain, France and Germany. The mission was designated "HyEurope 2003".
HyVista Corp has previously participated in several European hyperspectral projects. In 1998 and 1999, HyVista Corp collaborated with DLR and Astrium in the ProSmart project and then in 2000, HyVista Corp supplied imagery over sites in Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Finland, the UK and Greenland in support of the EU sponsored MINEO project. Also in 2000, HyVista Corp provided the hyperspectral imagery for the BNSC's SHAC project.
For HyEurope 2003, one of HyVista Corp's HyMapTM sensors was installed in DLR's DO228 aircraft for the mission. Also mounted in the same aircraft was DLR's ROSIS sensor. The imagery collected during the mission was primarily to support R&D programs in a number of European Universities and government research organizations.
As examples, hyperspectral imagery collected over the Barrax site in Spain will be used in a Phase A study for ESA's planned Earth Explorer mission, SPECTRA. Imagery collected along the coast of Brittany (near Mont St Michel) will be used by the University of Nantes in a remote sensing application development program aimed at mapping microphytobentos over large coastal areas.
North American News
Meanwhile, HyVista Corp's USA hyperspectral survey program continued during May - July 2003 with imagery being collected for a variety of projects in Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, California and Oregon. Airborne hyperspectral imagery and derived products were delivered for projects ranging from assessment of geothermal prospectivity through to mapping invasive weeds.
Survey work in the US, Canada and Mexico will resume later in August and continue through until October. Projects to be undertaken during this deployment will have the HyMap sensor system based out of Las Vegas with US sites already identified in Nevada and Arizona, in the mid-west, along the Gulf coast and in several eastern states.
HyVista Corp provides opportunities for clients to obtain hyperspectral imagery and derived information products at reduced costs if they participate in R&D group shoot activities. Commercial and proprietary surveys are also undertaken. HyVista Corp also offers a number of options for down stream processing of the hyperpsectral imagery. All interested parties are encouraged to contact HyVista Corp via email (surveys@hyvista.com).
Hyperspectral Data Archives
HyVista Corp also holds a very large archive of airborne hyperspectral imagery acquired in the USA, Mexico and Canada since 1999. These data are available for purchase. For further information contact HyVista Corp (hvc@hyvista.com).
New Web Site for HyMap Users
HyVista Corp and Integrated Spectronics (manufacturer of the HyMapTM series of airborne hyperspectral sensors) have just started a new website, www.hymap.com. The intention of this website is to be an information source for all users of HyMap imagery. Contained within the website will be a comprehensive list of links to web sites containing information on projects that have used HyMap imagery.
Also planned is an on-line library of papers, posters and reports submitted by HyMap users and staff of HyVista Corp. People who would like to contribute to this library are encouraged to contact HyVista Corp.
Contained within this new web site are examples of imagery collected in the US earlier this year.
Upcoming Mission to Southern Africa
HyVista Corp is currently finalizing details of a mission to the Republic of South Africa and Namibia during September / October 2003.
Anyone interested in participating in this mission are encouraged to contact HyVista Corp. During the deployment, there will also be opportunities to undertake work in other southern / eastern African countries. More details will be released shortly on HyVista Corp's website.
