Positioning Solutions GPS Systems Improve Vehicle Safety

AAA Study Indicates That Paper Maps Can Cause Distractions

CLEVELAND--Aug. 8, 2003--AAA released recommendations for an addition to state drivers manuals focusing on avoiding distractions in response to a recent AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety study indicating that distracted drivers account for 25 to 50 percent of vehicle crashes nationwide. As part of their recommendations for improving vehicle safety, AAA recommended that drivers designate a front seat "co-pilot" or map out their journey in advance. A Positioning Solutions GPS system can help it's users to be safer, because, unlike a paper map or pre-generated directions printed off of the internet, it does not require the driver to take his or her eyes off of the road. Positioning Solutions GPS systems provide multiple spoken audio alerts before each turn, providing drivers with ample time to get into the correct lane and perform the maneuver.

Not only does the GPS system keep the driver's eyes free, it also keeps his or her hands free as well as, unlike a paper map or printed directions, the PDA-based system mounts on the vehicle's front window, dash board or vent and does not require the driver to manipulate it while driving.

"There are already plenty of distractions on the road," said Positioning Solutions CEO Jeremy Straub, "There is no reason why getting directions needs to be one of them."

Founded in 2003, Positioning Solutions is the exclusive manufacturer of Mapopolis branded GPS systems. The company's products are available on three continents and in over twenty-five countries. Positioning Solutions has developed GPS systems for more than 40 different types of handhelds. More information about PositioningSolutions products is available at www.positioningsolutions.com
