DUBLIN, IRELAND - DECEMBER 3, 2003: eSpatial, a leading spatial information management company, today announced the newest version of the company's flagship geospatial solution, iSMARTŪ 4.3. New features - including a single rapid application development environment for non-GIS specialists, powerful connected and disconnected functionality for mobile and off-line use and support for the Open GIS Consortium (OGC) Web Mapping Services (WMS) and Geography Mark-up Language (GML) standards - make iSMART the solution of choice for enterprise users looking to embed spatial functionality and applications in standard enterprise IT environments. iSMART enables companies to reduce costs and accelerate development times by leveraging geospatial information and functionality without having to deploy a separate GIS infrastructure.
iSMART 4.3, built on Oracle Spatial, has already been successfully tested on Oracle 10g, Oracle's next-generation database and application server technology. Operating on Oracle 10g will open up new opportunities to deploy highly scalable spatial solutions in the wider IT market.
"As a customer, iSMART gives us the ability to integrate and distribute spatial data throughout our organization which is central to the success of our land management project, iMAP," commented Philip O'Reilly, Assistant Secretary General in the Department of Agriculture and Food, Ireland.
"eSpatial helped provide the Department with a comprehensive framework for the management and delivery of area-based grant payments."
Fred Limp, University of Arkansas Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies, said, "the iSMART architecture is extremely impressive and eSpatial's positioning of the suite shows strategic vision. I am convinced that there will be a growing role for solutions that can be adopted by an enterprise to spatially enable their activities without the need for a full-blown "GIS" program. The Java architecture of iSMART provides a very effective way to bridge the spatial and business integration worlds by providing a flexible solution and a rapid development environment."
This latest version of iSMART introduces a single rapid development and deployment environment for web applications and web services using standard web development tools, such as Macromedia Dreamweaver. A key benefit, this enables web developers to create applications incorporating geospatial information easily and without specialist GIS skills. The product suite also includes iSMART Editor, an advanced 'drop-in' component for capturing, digitizing and viewing spatial data, designed to be embedded in end-user applications, whether mobile, desktop or Web. It supports mobile or occasionally connected use and will seamlessly resynchronize data captured off-line into Oracle. iSMART Editor also includes the capability to perform topologically structured data validation, capture and editing on a mobile or web-enabled device.
iSMART 4.3 also addresses the need for interoperability with GIS applications through support for the OGC standards for Geography Mark-up Language (GML) and Web Mapping Services (WMS), enabling access to data in existing GIS applications over the Internet or Intranet. In addition, iSMART provides support to rapidly develop spatially enabled web services.
"Oracle and eSpatial have a long standing partnership working together to define a new class of spatial solutions that can be deployed using standard database and application server technology," said Bertram Mandel, senior director, alliances and channels, Oracle Europe, Middle East and Africa.
"What has evolved from this alliance is one of the most compelling integrated spatial solutions offered in the world today that far exceed the capability of traditional GIS vendor technologies."
Philip O'Doherty, CEO with eSpatial, added, "the new features in iSMART underscore our company's commitment to providing high-quality, high-performance and easy-to-use spatial information management solutions to enterprise users. With this new release of iSMART, eSpatial enables our customers to cost efficiently leverage the power of geospatial information to make critical business decisions."
Availability:
iSMART 4.3 is available immediately for Windows and Unix platforms using the Oracle 8i, 9i or 10g (beta) databases . For more information, please visit http://www.espatial.com/page164.html
