Penn State Edition: Learning ArcGIS I-A New Course From ESRI Virtual Campus and Penn State University
Redlands, California—ESRI Virtual Campus presents Penn State Edition: Learning ArcGIS I, a new course that combines the convenience of online instruction with the added benefit of online support from a Penn State instructor. Penn State Geography Department instructors review work submitted through the university’s online course management system and give feedback or answer questions daily. Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive four continuing education units from Penn State.
This six-module course (the first module is free) introduces the ArcGIS family of software products and explains how the ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox applications work together to provide a complete geographic information system (GIS) solution. Participants learn fundamental GIS concepts including what spatial data is and how to create, edit, symbolize, organize, georeference, query, and map spatial data using ArcGIS. In each module, participants get practical experience using the software by completing projects based on realistic GIS applications ranging from investigating potential aquaculture sites in Zambia to mapping the impact of Hurricane Iris in Belize.
Registered participants receive a free trial software CD. To enroll in the course or for a complete course description, visit ESRI Virtual Campus at http://campus.esri.com or call
