ESRI New York Satellite Office Becomes a Regional Office
New Regional Office Will Focus Solely on New York City and Long Island
Redlands, California—ESRI, the world leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, has announced that as of January 1, 2003, its New York City satellite office will become the company’s eleventh U.S. regional office.
“The New York City satellite office has grown and been tremendously successful under the stewardship of our regional office in Boston,” said ESRI President Jack Dangermond. “We have chosen to acknowledge that growth and success by establishing it as its own regional office. We feel that in this way we can be even more responsive to the needs of our many users in New York City and Long Island.”
The new regional office will focus solely on a seven-county area that is composed of New York City and Long Island. The rest of New York State will continue to be served by the Boston regional office.
ESRI established the New York City satellite office in the mid-1990s in response to a growing community of users in the city and the metropolitan area. New York-area users include the New York Fire Department; the city’s Departments of Health, Parks, and Transportation; and an enterprisewide implementation in Nassau County on Long Island. Members of the New York office led other ESRI employees in assisting city officials in the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster on September 11, 2001.
Chris Schielein, who currently manages the New York City satellite office, will serve as regional manager. “Our current customers will not notice an immediate difference in terms of the support that they currently receive from us,” said Schielein. “We’ll continue to serve our users to the best of our ability, and we’ll still be working closely with the Boston office to do that. But we see the establishment of a regional office in New York as elevating our level of responsibility within the company as well as to our users.”
