SURDEX CORPORATION AWARDED USDA CONTRACT
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly
St. Louis, Missouri — Surdex Corporation announced it has been awarded a $2.7 million contract by the United States Department of Agriculture, Farm Services Agency, Aerial Photography Field Office for the 2003 National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP). The project entails the acquisition of 1:40,000 scale color or color infrared aerial photography for the states of Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas during the summer of 2003. Surdex will produce nearly 16,000 1 or 2-meter resolution digital orthophotos for the 220,000 square miles of coverage for a fall delivery.

Surdex’s teammates include Keystone Aerial Services, M.J. Harden and Associates, Tuck Engineering, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Aerial Surveys International and John F. Kennefic Photogrammetric Consultants.

"This is one of the largest projects Surdex has undertaken and the award reflects the fact that our team has the experience, capability and capacity necessary to successfully accomplish the NAIP program objectives", said Ronald C. Hoffmann, president of Surdex Corporation. "Surdex and our teammates will be utilizing common tools and processes to ensure consistency throughout the effort.”

Due to the aggressive NAIP schedule requirements, the project requires tight coordination for the acquisition of aerial photography and also the processing of the data into the deliverable products. Aerial photography acquisition, image scanning, data processing, and quality control functions are distributed amongst the team members. Many of the processes and software tools have been developed by the Surdex research and development staff and have been conveyed to teammates for use on the project. These tools include Surdex’s Collaborative Project Management System (CPMS), a web-based project management and status reporting system used by both the team and the client.

Founded in 1954, Surdex Corporation offers photogrammetric and LIDAR mapping as well as GIS services to a broad range of commercial, county/municipal, federal and department of defense/defense mapping clientele. For more information, call 636-532-3427 or visit www.surdex.com.
