PCI Geomatics Supports MERIS, ASAR Sensors on Envisat
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly
Richmond Hill, Ontario - July 25, 2003: PCI Geomatics(r) announces that new rigorous model support for the Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) and the MEdium Resolution Imaging Specrometer (MERIS) sensors aboard the Envisat platform is included within Geomatica(r) 9, the company's newest geospatial software solution. Developed by Dr. Thierry Toutin at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS, Natural Resources Canada), implementation of ASAR and MERIS rigorous sensor support allows customers to orthorectify this imagery with much greater accuracy than currently available through other methods.

"Rigorous support for these Envisat sensors will enhance Geomatica 9's application opportunities for studying ocean and coastal environments," notes Arnold Hougham, Vice-President of Sales and Product Marketing for PCI Geomatics. "Envisat sensors are an essential technology for furthering earth science research and our understanding of environmental and climatic changes. Support of these sensors within Geomatica 9 offers scientists a productive environment for processing remotely sensed data to be used in aquatic environment management and coastal zone monitoring."

The European Space Agency (ESA) launched Envisat in March 2002. Designed to function as an advanced polar-orbiting Earth observation satellite, Envisat provides measurements of the atmosphere, ocean, land, and ice from an 800km sun-synchronous polar orbit. The satellite's orbital repeat cycle is approximately 35 days, however relatively wide sensor swaths provide complete coverage of the globe within three days.

Rigorous model support for MERIS, ASAR and other sensors such as SPOT, EROS, IKONOS, and QuickBird sensors can be found in PCI Geomatics's new Geomatica 9 software release. Geomatica 9 builds upon the PCI Geomatics reputation for providing a seamless "all-in-one" and "end-to-end" geospatial processing environment. Geomatica 9 greatly extends PCI's industry-leading remote sensing technology for unsurpassed image analysis, photogrammetric composition, GIS processing, cartographic visualization, and successful earth observation based geomatics operations. GIS capabilities, hyperspectral tools, and an exclusive new hyperspectral data compression technology top the list of improvements and additions for the new Geomatica 9, a completely integrated solution that provides superior geomatics capabilities with productivity enhancing features.
