MapInfo Australia Signs Enterprise Agreement with NSW Rural Fire Services

SYDNEY - 13 June 2003 - MapInfo Australia today announced the signing of an enterprise agreement with the NSW Rural Fire Services (RFS). The software licensing agreement, totalling AUD$1 million over four years, will play a critical role in fire management for the NSW RFS.

MapInfo's technology will be integrated across all areas of the organisation and will assist in the application of a more streamlined approach to fire management for the NSW RFS. The adoption of MapInfo's technology enables the NSW RFS to distribute its data to many locations, enabling users to share and utilise data quickly and effectively.

Kelvin Wise, GIS Manager, NSW Rural Fire Services said, "We required a cost-effective and scaleable GIS system that enabled spatial databases to be distributed across all regions, in real-time. It was also essential we used a database that had spatial capabilities via a web browser and could be utilised by high-end GIS users to moderate part-time users.

"Using MapInfo's technology, we are able provide GIS capabilities to a variety of users from experienced GIS specialists to volunteers with limited computer skills located in remote areas of NSW. This means we are now capable of providing regional areas with access to vital information - allowing the RFS to better serve local communities," he said.

Mr Brian Cartwright, general manager, MapInfo Australasia and South East Asia said, "This deployment is based on a strategy that utilises all our technology including SpatialWare on databases through to the desktop, browser based deployment and mobile mapping solutions."

"MapInfo's enterprise solutions provide the NSW RFS with a unified platform to identify, coordinate and manage fires using accurate information that is available in a timely manner.

"Organisations can effectively implement MapInfo's technology due to its small footprint, low learning curve and minimal implementation cost. This, coupled with MapInfo's rapid deployment capabilities, make our offerings compatible with the needs of fire management for the NSW RFS," he said.

The implementation of MapInfo's solutions will also involve MapInfo's authorised partners, RapidMap Global and Lagen Spatial.
