GITA Announces Publication of Sixth Annual Geospatial Technology Report
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Aurora, CO — The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announced today the publication of its Geospatial Technology Report 2003-2004. The report, the sixth in an annual series from GITA, contains detailed information on the complexity, direction, and completeness of geographic information systems (GIS) projects being implemented at 204 organizations—a three-fold increase in participation from the 50 organizations included in the first report, published in 1998. At 133 pages, the new report is 46% longer than last year’s edition.

New to the report this year is a section on GIS projects at public sector organizations, joining the five other industry sections: electric, gas, pipeline, telecommunications, and water/wastewater/storm. Information in each industry section focuses on landbase accuracy, sophistication, maintenance cycles, application usage, and interfaces. Another new feature of the 2003-2004 report details costs of projects distributed into relevant categories, such as software, hardware, services, and data.

Each section includes a listing of the top ten technologies and top ten applications in use by the industry. Brian Kiernan of GITA’s Industry Trends Analysis Group (ITAG), wrote in the report’s executive summary: “As the technology and its role in business operations evolve, the Geospatial Technology Report will help users and developers of GIT have a better understanding of how the technology is being use, and what value there is in the many applications and interfaces that geospatial data enable.”

The report, which is provided free of charge to survey participants, is available for $145 for GITA individual members and $245 for nonmembers. Copies of the report may be ordered online at http://www.gita.org/resources/geo_report/georeport.html, or by contacting GITA headquarters at 303-337-0513, or info@gita.org. For information on participating in the 2005 report, contact Ken Goering at 303-337-0513 or kgoering@gita.org.
