GIMS, ESRI's GIS Software Distributor in South Africa, Signs Comprehensive Agreement With De Beers
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Redlands, California-ESRI, the world's leading developer of geographic information system (GIS) software, announces that GIMS (Pty) Limited, its distributor in South Africa, recently signed a Multi National Enterprise (MNE) agreement with the De Beers Group, the largest diamond company in the world. The agreement establishes ESRI's GIS technology as the standard throughout the De Beers organization. De Beers, with approximately 22,000 employees operating in 25 countries, De Beers has used GIS technology for the past 12 years.

The management at De Beers believes that standardizing on ESRI GIS technology will allow the consolidation of its data, which will provide a better overview of the organization across all of the different countries in which it is operating, resulting in more effective strategic planning.

De Beers Group Exploration is using ESRI's ArcSDE as a regional geodatabase to integrate spatial data from various systems and distribute that information throughout the organization including those employees working in the field. ArcGIS Desktop is used as a front end using standard metadata, symbology, and geodatabase structure.

De Beers Marine uses ESRI's ArcIMS, ArcSDE, MapObjects, and ArcPad software to manage its spatial data work flow. MapObjects was used to build the Mine Planning stand-alone software that reads the data from ArcSDE including field data that was collected using ArcPad. ArcIMS is used to deliver the data, via the Internet, to remote mining and sampling ships.
