Auckland City, New Zealand, Chooses Tensing•SKS SPYder
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

GERMANTOWN, MD., USA, 2 August 2004 – Tensing•SKS is pleased to announce that Auckland City Council, headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, has chosen SPYder to support its GE Network Solutions Smallworld GIS. Smallworld has been in use at Auckland City for eight years but until recently has only been available to a limited number of users. The Tensing•SKS SPYder product is an Internet server solution that allows all Auckland City computer users to view the GIS information via the city’s intranet.

SPYder is part of the Tensing•SKS SPY product suite, a complete set of high performance, easy-to-use GIS-applications developed to make GIS data accessible to a broad group of users. SPYder enables companies to disclose high-resolution graphical data, like maps, to any registered user, regardless of their location. With SPYder any user can view high-quality maps and execute complex Smallworld functionality on a standard or mobile workstation. Data is stored centrally and is easily accessed remotely. All that is needed is an Internet connection and a web browser.

In the Auckland City implementation, SPYder provides real time access to the primary GIS data with superior performance. The speed and convenience of access from every PC is giving benefits across the organization. For the first time, operators in the 50-seat telephone call center can use GIS data to assist in resolving customer enquiries. This provides a significant improvement in customer service when location data is an important component of the inquiry.

Prompted by customer requests to extend and improve the functionality of the original SPY Internet tool, Tensing•SKS has recently upgraded SPYder into a more economical product by creating less demand on hardware resources while still allowing it to handle more users. The result has been rated so impressive that already it has been deemed considerably faster than any competing product currently in the marketplace. In addition to the recent performance improvements, Tensing•SKS has developed other SPYder enhancements such as improved tracing speed and quality, superior querying and plotting functionality, along with changing the map size.

About Tensing•SKS
