HUNTSVILLE, Ala., August 2, 2004 - Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions today announced it has awarded an Intergraph Education Grant with a total commercial value of more than $773,000 (U.S.) in software and services to the Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training (PCATT) at Honolulu Community College. The grant program, which recognizes innovative teaching practices and provides teachers and students with the tools needed to explore new possibilities and the power to impact the future of geographic information science, will serve as the foundation of a new high tech education program for GIS training. Sponsored by PCATT, the program will incorporate Intergraph's suite of GeoMedia(R) technology and will include a series of courses at Honolulu Community College beginning this month with GIS Essentials. Additional course offerings will include training in Web GIS, advanced spatial analysis, 3-dimensional GIS modeling, GIS and global positioning systems (GPS) and industry specific applications. The goal of the program is to provide valuable education and training for the rapidly expanding GIS technology market in Hawaii.

Participants in the PCATT GIS program will be eligible to receive funding support through the State of Hawaii Educational Development Fund. In addition to the software and support provided through the grant, Pacific Consulting Services, Inc., an Intergraph Registered Solutions Provider and Honolulu-based GIS, environmental and cultural resources consulting firm, will support the new GIS program by providing course instructors and general software support.

"Geospatial data management and analysis is now an integral, indispensable part of many businesses and government agencies in Hawaii," said Berryl Morimoto, Program Manager, Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training.

"Geographic information systems are widely deployed for transportation planning, asset management, real estate development, environmental management, military and homeland security, public health research, business marketing and cultural resources management and archaeology. With the establishment of the new PCATT GIS education and training program, the Honolulu Community College is able to offer a much-needed service to the citizens of our community, and we are extremely thankful for Intergraph's support and generous software donation in helping make this program a reality."
