MapInfo Unveils CareInsite™ for Healthcare Professionals
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

CHICAGO-AMERICA'S HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS 2004 INSTITUTE-June 16, 2004-MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ: MAPS), the leading provider of location intelligence solutions for the enterprise, today announced its expanding role in the healthcare market with CareInsite™, an easy-to-use network analysis software solution. CareInsite enables healthplans, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to evaluate the development of provider networks. With healthcare networks growing quickly in both size and complexity, network managers and planners are finding it increasingly difficult to automate business processes, increase efficiencies and lower costs, creating a huge market need for sophisticated network analysis software. MapInfo is demonstrating CareInsite at the America's Health Insurance Plans 2004 Institute conference (booth # 1308) this week.

Traditionally, healthcare managers have relied upon costly, proprietary solutions or paper-based maps and spreadsheets to analyze networks. Increasingly, however, healthcare organizations are challenged to meet strict state and accreditation requirements that can complicate network growth. For instance, if a network lacks strategically located specialists within a given driving distance to customers, a healthplan might be denied permission to operate in specific counties.

"CareInsite will allow us to respond to network analysis questions from our employers, see opportunities for network development and satisfy National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) requirements with a minimum of staff. Its simplicity will make accomplishing these tasks easier and more efficient for our organization," said Jim Biebel, senior contract representative/network expansion, Preferred Care, a managed healthcare plan serving more than 260,000 individuals in the Greater Rochester, NY area.

CareInsite is able to bring the network structure to life on a healthcare administrator's desktop, ensuring that no gaps in coverage exist and providers meet regulatory and market needs. In addition, healthcare organizations will be able to use CareInsite to create graphs and reports for marketing efforts, easily demonstrating network adequacy.

"The healthcare market is so heavily regulated that quality tools for monitoring and optimizing networks are critical," said Tim Riley, senior marketing manager, MapInfo. "While the industry increasingly sees mapping as essential, the solutions available to date have not adequately met the needs of the healthcare community. Now, healthcare organizations can use MapInfo's visualization and mapping solutions to perform gap analysis and streamline the process of building and managing effective and efficient physician and provider networks."

Mapping Analytics, providers of geographically-based analytical services, will also be in MapInfo's booth during the America's Health Insurance Plans 2004 Institute conference this week. A long-standing MapInfo business partner, Mapping Analytics will continue to work with MapInfo to develop and market location analysis solutions for the healthcare industry.
