SANBORN WINS HIGH-RESOLUTION, COLOR ORTHOPHOTO PROJECT IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO

Colorado Springs, Colo., May 4, 2004—Sanborn CEO John Copple today announced that the company was chosen by the Franklin County Auditor’s Office in Franklin County, Ohio, for a countywide GIS update project.
Sanborn, a geographic information system (GIS) and photogrammetric services industry leader, will capture color aerial photography for the 540 square-mile county. Final deliverables will include color digital orthophotos with a 3-inch pixel resolution.
Numerous public entities, including municipalities, townships and school districts, use the auditor’s GIS for a variety of projects, such as utility tracking, drainage studies, bus routing and 911 emergency call routing.
The higher resolution orthophotos that Sanborn provides will give users greater visible detail— fire hydrants, manhole covers and the like will be easy to discern—resulting in more accurate decision-making.
Randy Holt, Sanborn project manager for the Franklin County project, remarked, “Franklin County Auditor Joe Testa really makes the most of the GIS, sharing data and making it accessible so that all governmental entities can benefit. The resulting higher-resolution, color imagery will make the system much more powerful. I am excited to see this project through.”
