Charlotte, NC, USA: NovaLIS Technologies – the leader in the supply of land information management products to government – implemented its Assessment Office product in Currituck County, North Carolina.
NovaLIS Assessment Office provides assessors with an affordable, off-the-shelf, computer assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) system to do their job more efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis. Currituck County, which has an eight-year revaluation cycle, is currently using Assessment Office to conduct a revaluation.
“We have realized a number of benefits in moving to the NovaLIS Assessment Office product,” says Tracy Sample of Currituck County. “We replaced our in-house valuation method with Marshall & Swift, the leading provider of data and technologies to the appraisal industry. Assessment Office supports multiple approaches to land valuation, including market, soil, and use value, giving us the flexibility to consider more factors of market value.”
NovaLIS EasySketch II™, included with the Assessment Office product, was integrated with the County’s property record card to display building sketches in their property record cards. Their property record card has also been configured to display building photos.
Currituck County is also the first county to implement the Assessment Office Web Module, providing public access to assessment data via the Internet. This system, developed using .Net technology, provides the public with a user-friendly interface where they can search for assessment information using such criteria as parcel ID, owner name, and property address. The Web Module is now in Phase 2, which will extend functionality to include integration with GIS functionality, as well as sketch, photograph, and property record card display by the end of 2004.
A complete data conversion was conducted to move the County’s 22,000 parcels and associated data into Assessment Office. There are approximately 10 people currently using the new system in Currituck County.
NovaLIS Assessment Office simplifies the sharing of information, integrates with GIS, and has the flexibility to value property using industry standard as well as client-specific methodologies. Most importantly, Assessment Office enables appraisers to achieve their number one objective – to arrive at accurate and defendable values.
