Hull Maps Out a Better Service For Its Parks With Mayrise System

Hull is improving the management of the city's parks with a computerised mapping system to pinpoint areas. The specially-developed MAYRISE system links a database of parks, playgrounds and sports fields to on-screen maps. During incoming calls reporting litter, vandalism or over-grown borders, the system allows the precise location to be pinpointed enabling a fast service response.
The computer system, developed by Gloucestershire-based Mayrise Systems, gives Hull up-to-the-minute information and will be linked to 5 remote depots. Using Terminal Server technology, everyone involved in the grounds maintenance service will be able to access the central database and maps. Live service information reported from the council's call centre will allow services to respond quickly and more effectively, knowing the precise location of an area requiring service.
Hull City Council manage over 1000 hectares of land including 136 parks, playing fields and playgrounds. The grounds maintenance work is one of the most difficult services to manage because factors such as the weather have an impact on workloads, making scheduling difficult. This is compounded by the variable nature of the assets and absence of mapped features in wide open spaces.
"The Mayrise system has revolutionised the way we work. Having access to comprehensive and live information is really useful, but the added mapping is a real boost to service as we can pinpoint areas accurately and get resources where they are needed" says Mike McWilliams of Hull City Council.
