SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Sept. 23, 2004--Exhibiting at the Institute of Navigation (ION) GNSS 2004 trade show this week in Long Beach, Thales' navigation business unit is showcasing its latest developments in GPS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) solutions for the more than 2,200 influencers and customers at the largest GNSS-related trade show in North America.
Thales' presence at the show consists of a broad spectrum of offerings that concretely demonstrate the company's three-pronged approach to the GPS OEM market. By providing a wide range of reliable and competitive GPS "black box", board, and IP and technology solutions to electronics customers around the globe, Thales OEM solutions enable customers to enhance their leadership position in existing and emerging electronics and automotive markets.
Among the demonstrations at the Thales booth #540, show attendees can get an insiders look at high-performance, low-cost solutions in three categories:
Thales "Black Box" Solutions
With a strategic focus on the automotive market, Thales brings years of experience as the premier provider of aftermarket auto navigation to OEM customers in the automotive field. Thales' navigation business created the Hertz Neverlost(R) system, through a joint venture with Hertz, and the market-leading Magellan(R) RoadMate(TM) portable vehicle navigation system. Demonstrations of Thales auto navigation solutions are available at the Thales booth.
Thales GPS Board Solutions
Powered by the Thales A12 GPS board, the SkyGolf GPS(TM) SG2(TM) Personal Digital Caddie from SkyHawke Technologies is a leader in recreational positioning systems. The SG2 automatically calculates, as a golfer moves around the course, distances to up to forty targets per hole simultaneously in less than a second -- leading to better club selection, faster play, lower scores, and more fun. The SG2 demonstration at the Thales booth is an example of how Thales GPS technology is contributing to the consumer electronics market.
Thales GPS IP and Technology
Thales brings its leading IP and technology to companies that wish to co-develop and market GPS chipsets, subsystems and the associated software. By working with these companies, Thales will enable the marketing of GPS chipsets and evaluation platforms to OEMs for a vast range of applications such as consumer navigation, military positioning, avionics, asset location and much more.
