Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Munich, April 16, 2005 - Definiens is pleased to announce the formation of two new Centers of Excellence In Object Oriented Image Analysis: Department of Geography at University of Calgary in Canada and Tropical Spatial Science Group at Charles Darwin University in Australia.

Both universities were early users of eCognition software and have shown outstanding commitment using it throughout their academic curriculum and in research projects.

"The Department of Geography, together with its Masters of Geographic Information Systems Program, at the University of Calgary are delighted at having been selected as one of the four world centres of excellence for the eCognition software. This is a crucial component in our drive to be recognised as an international leader in the area of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Science. We are looking forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with Definiens, the manufacturers of eCognition.", says Professor Nigel Waters, Director of the Masters in GIS Program at the University of Calagary's Department of Geography.

Definiens has created the eCognition Center of Excellence programme in order to specifically support selected academic and educational institutions. The Center of Excellence programme gives these institutions further incentives and support in their work with and training of eCognition and will allow an improved distribution of eCognition based results to students and professionals.

Charles Darwin University and University of Calgary join other Centers of Excellence in Austria and the US.
