Vector Compression and Streaming in ArcGIS with RaveGeo
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Gothenburg, Sweden – Idevio, the company behind the vector compression and streaming technology RaveGeo announces today that RaveGeo is available for ArcGIS. This means that ESRI users now can benefit from fast, streaming access of geographic data, something that previously only been available in advanced military systems.

RaveGeo is a new compression and streaming technology for multi-resolution vector maps. RaveGeo was invented by the Swedish software company Idevio and was early adopted by the defense applications with high demands for speed and compression. With the release of the RaveGeo ArcGIS plugin, RaveGeo now is also available to the many users of ArcGIS from ESRI.

“I’m very pleased that ESRI users now have access to the exciting vector streaming and compression technology RaveGeo in the ArcGIS products. This adds to the strength and flexibility of the ArcGIS platform.” says Rickard Zetterberg, board member of ESRI Sweden.

RaveGeo gives ESRI users access to remote geographic vector data sources with much higher performance than current solutions. The geographic objects can be viewed, analyzed and processed in real-time, which is great for companies and organizations that wish to spread information from large vector databases within an intranet or over the Internet.

RaveGeo is also perfect for embedded GIS, the high compression makes it possible to store and use much more map material than before. Mobile and embedded applications is often today limited and slow. With RaveGeo 10 times more data can be used and with workstation performance in handheld devices.

“RaveGeo has added value to defense applications for years and it’s very satisfying that our technology now also is available to the large community of ESRI users” says Johan Persson, CTO at Idevio.

RaveGeo is available to ArcGIS products, version 8.3 and higher, such as ArcReader, ArcMap, ArcScene, ArcCatalogue and ArcGlobe. RaveGeo also works with ArcIMS and with ArcGIS Engine for embedded GIS. An installable plug-in makes RaveGeo databases look as any other data source in ArcGIS. On-line demos of the connection between ArcGIS and RaveGeo are available at www.idevio.com.
