User views to shape future of gigateway Plans to improve the UK's national online gateway to geospatial information have begun with a dedicated user survey.
The web-based service www.gigateway.org.uk is operated by the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) and is paid for by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister through its National Interest Mapping Services Agreement with Ordnance Survey.
The site gives free access to information about geographically linked databases. It includes a directory of all organisations who supply geographic data, products and services, and a search engine to discover the various datasets available in the UK.
Users can also discover geographically based information for specific areas by entering in a postcode. Details include the relevant local council, parliamentary constituency, health authority and primary care trust.
The AGI want to canvass views from anyone who uses GIS software or other solutions to create datasets whichever sector of the GI industry they represent: utilities, health, crime and disorder, telecommunications, local or central government.
The survey asks users what they think of the gigateway service and how it could be improved.
The survey closes on 29 July. Find it on under Latest News.
