Carbon Project Releases New Geospatial Web Browser

Washington, DC, March 14, 2005 – The Carbon Project announced today that a new version of the Gaia geospatial web browser is now available for download. Gaia 2.0 is a free, standalone application that runs on any Windows desktop. It installs in seconds and handles maps and Geography Markup Language (GML) features from any Web Map Server (WMS) or Web Feature Server (WFS) that properly implements Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards.
“The Carbon Project is proud to release this new version of Gaia based on CarbonTools 2. It’s faster, easier to use and supports more vendors.
Gaia 2 also includes many new capabilities including new map zooming functions and the ability to work with GML 3. You can even grab content from OGC web services, take your information offline and continue to work if you want,” said Nuke Goldstein, Founder of the Carbon Project.
Gaia 2.0 is a complete upgrade for this free product and features the capability to save geospatial web sessions with the new Gaia Session Format (.gsf), providing exciting new opportunities to share open geospatial content. Gaia 2.0 also supports user authentication for geospatial web services interaction and proxy configurations, making it suitable for use in enterprise environments.
Gaia 2.0 was developed using CarbonTools 2. The mission of CarbonTools is to make open geospatial services accessible to Windows and .NET developers. The CarbonTools SDK provides an open and extendable framework on which Windows and .NET developers can build interoperable geospatial software solutions.
