Redlands, California- ESRI, the global leader and provider of geographic information system (GIS) software and commercial Web services, congratulates Bones in Motion for receiving the grand prize award in the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge. The LBS Challenge was a location-based services (LBS) application development contest held in conjunction with the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association). Bones in Motion's BiM Active product was selected among 18 semifinalists, across six individual application categories, by a panel of 11 judges representing wireless carriers, mobile device manufacturers, wireless infrastructure providers, and information technology leaders.
"We are honored to have received this prestigious award from NAVTEQ and thankful to ESRI for their support leading up to and during the event," says Andy Graham, CEO, Bones in Motion. "Our goal is to make LBS personal by bringing convenience and motivation to active consumer lifestyles in a fun and compelling way."
BiM Active is a location-based application that provides individuals with an effortless way to fulfill their personal fitness goals via a simple-to-use and inexpensive GPS-enabled mobile phone. BiM Active offers casual or competitive athletes a way to collect GPS location information about workouts or regimens, measure their productivity, and post the information to a Web-based journal that can be shared with other athletes or managed within a private diary-all from the convenience of their mobile phone.
Bones in Motion uses ESRI ArcWeb Services to display street, topographic, and aerial photo maps on wireless phones and Web browsers for the BiM Active application. ArcWeb Services are hosted Web services that include map data and on-demand geospatial capabilities needed to add addresses, points of interest, dynamic maps, and routing directions to Web and wireless applications. Because data storage, maintenance, and updates are handled by ESRI, ArcWeb Services eliminate the overhead of purchasing and maintaining large map databases and software.
"It has been our great pleasure working with the Bones in Motion team over the last several months and during the course of the NAVTEQ LBS Challenge,"
says Jonathan Spinney, LBS industry manager, ESRI. "We congratulate Bones in Motion on this significant achievement and look forward to supporting them into the future as wireless carrier LBS deployments expand in 2005."
