Redlands, California- ESRI, the global leader and provider of geographic information system (GIS) software and commercial Web services, congratulates LOC-AID Technologies LLC for receiving the Peer-to-Peer/Find Me application category award in the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge. The LBS Challenge was a location-based services (LBS) application development contest held in conjunction with the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association). Within the Peer-to-Peer/Find Me application category, LOC-AID was selected among three semifinalists by a panel of 11 judges representing wireless carriers, mobile device manufacturers, wireless infrastructure providers, and information technology leaders.

"LOC-AID is very excited about winning the 2005 Peer-to-Peer/Find Me award in the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge," says Isaias Sudit, president and CEO, LOC-AID. "Our friend-finder application, LOC-AID People, was selected as best of breed among hundreds of other entries. LOC-AID has leveraged its extensive knowledge from the automatic vehicle locator and telematics market as well as using powerful development tools such as ArcIMS, which provides the best user experience possible." LOC-AID People helps users locate friends, children, or family members as well as locate closest points-of-interest such as restaurants. It also allows mobile users to share their location information with anyone in their social network.

"ESRI has thoroughly enjoyed working with LOC-AID during the course of the NAVTEQ LBS Challenge," says Jon Spinney, industry manager, Location-Based Services, ESRI. "LOC-AID has applied our ArcIMS mapping server with NAVTEQ maps in innovative ways to augment their entire portfolio of location-based applications. We are pleased to support LOC-AID's existing LBS deployments and look forward to supporting LOC-AID as they broaden their subscriber base across additional wireless carrier networks in the future."
