Rand McNally Selects TCS to Power Traffic Product
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

ANNAPOLIS, Md. and SKOKIE, Ill.--March 29, 2005--TeleCommunication Systems (NASDAQ:TSYS), a global leader in wireless data technology, announced today that Rand McNally, the most trusted name in maps and directions, has selected TCS to power its recently released traffic product for wireless phones. Rand McNally Traffic is a downloadable mobile application that delivers real-time traffic flow and/or incident reporting in more than 90 U.S. metro markets. The service is currently available on most of the major wireless carrier networks for users with compatible mobile phones.

TCS technology enables the Rand McNally Traffic application to:
-- Display maps showing traffic incidents using multiple icons
-- Highlight speed flow, including showing traffic hot spots that are color coded by average speed
-- Combine speed flow maps with traffic incidents

As a result, the user is able to:
-- Visually inspect a metropolitan area or specific area within a larger market (for example, if in Metro D.C., query for traffic on the north side of the D.C. Beltway)
-- Scroll, zoom, and drill down into accident reports
-- Look for information along a designated route

Alan Yefsky, Vice President, New Products & Strategy for Rand McNally, stated, "TCS' proven technology enables us to deliver relevant and accurate traffic information to wireless handsets and helps us solve travel problems that people face every day. We are excited to be working with TCS to bring our new wireless traffic service to consumers across the country."

"TCS provides Rand McNally with the technology that assists drivers with the most precise and user-friendly wireless information data tools available," said Drew Morin, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for TeleCommunication Systems. "TCS looks forward to working with Rand McNally, a trusted industry leader, and to providing the most efficient and expedient information for wireless subscribers' needs today."
