May 3, 2005 – Toronto, Ontario - Geosoft Incorporated, a leading provider of geospatial software, announced today that UK-based GETECH has selected Oasis montaj™ software as their standard platform for geoscience data mapping and processing. The company-wide deployment will result in increased productivity and operational efficiency, enabling GETECH to move from a UNIX to a PC platform for a more modern, integrated software system that can better manage high volumes of data.
GETECH, a leading provider of gravity and magnetic data and interpretation services for the international oil and mining industry, has significantly increased its investment in both Oasis montaj™ software and Oasis montaj™ extension software, GM-SYS modeling. The standard use of Oasis montaj™ software in GETECH’s Leeds, UK and Houston, USA offices will give employees greater accessibility to data, and the ability to update and manipulate data in real time. Oasis montaj™ also offers great flexibility, so that extensions and custom software applications can be integrated seamlessly into the Oasis montaj™ platform.
“It was very important to us that the software system was flexible enough to accommodate our own internal executable functions,” says GETECH Managing Director, Derek Fairhead (Ph.D). “We’ve written some of our own software, and these modules work side-by-side with Geosoft’s software. We’re familiar with Oasis montaj™ and like its functionality. With the new system, data can now flow easily between our UK and US offices.”
Oasis montaj™ enables geoscientists to efficiently import, view, process and share earth science datasets, grids and images within one integrated environment. Geosoft’s Customer Service team will provide long-term technical support and training for GETECH employees, to ensure productive, best practice use of software functionality. Geosoft’s impressive record of providing quality technical support for clients influenced GETECH’s decision to adopt the Geosoft platform.
“Our two companies have a long-standing relationship; we know the people and have a lot of confidence in them,” says GETECH Chief Geophysicist, Chris Green (Ph.D). “With Geosoft, we know that we are getting long-term stability and a company that will support us for several years to come.”
Geosoft’s expertise in large geospatial data mapping is helping consultants and exploration companies in the Oil and Gas market to increase efficiencies and reduce costs.
“When working with large and multiple geoscience datasets, Oil companies want to minimize their data chores and maximize results, so that they are not wasting 80 percent of their project time manipulating and assessing data,” says Geosoft Europe's Managing Director, Ash Johnson.
“In exploration, you reduce risk and make good decisions based on understanding all the different data at your disposal. Geosoft’s software allows GETECH to develop a competitive edge in providing its clients with quick turnaround times in the delivery of quality data and interpretations.”
