MapInfo and Simmons Computing Service Deliver Location-Based Solution
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

TROY, NYMay 4, 2005 MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS), the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announced a new location-based application developed with its partner, Simmons Computing Services, Inc., to help energy research and development organizations effectively manage their project and contract information. For instance, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), relies on the Simmons and MapInfo solution to provide performance information on the impact of energy research and conservation programs within the state.

The ability to access accurate and up-to-date geographic data is essential to the work of energy research and development organizations. With the Simmons Energy Development Management (EDM) System, NYSERDA can access updated location-based information to analyze the performance/impact of certain programs, such as the effectiveness of solar roof shingles on a school’s energy consumption. The partner solution, based on MapInfo SpatialWare® and a SQL database, allows users to quickly define an area by selecting a political boundary or custom region, such as a gas utility district, and generate accurate and customized reports on the area. Regarded among the top energy research organizations in North America, NYSERDA now has the ability to better analyze the impact of 2,700 projects in more than 40 program areas.

“It is very important that we have the ability to report on the performance and effectiveness of our energy and conservation programs,” said Jeff Pitkin, treasurer of NYSERDA. “The ability to access accurate impact data is essential to our work and location-based solutions from Simmons and MapInfo help us achieve our business goals.”

“The relationship forged between MapInfo and Simmons has resulted in the development of a more intelligent application with a proven solution architecture,” said Sabby Nayar, strategic industry manager, public sector and education, MapInfo. “The Energy Development Management System enables businesses involved in energy research to perform detailed analysis of location-based information, enabling them to concentrate on their chief objectivehelping their communities become more prosperous places in which to live and work.”
