Thornton, Colo. (May 23, 2005)—GeoSpatial Experts today announced a business partner agreement with Trimble to resell and distribute selected Mapping & Geographic Information System (GIS) products, including the GPS Pathfinder Pro series receivers, GeoExplorer series of rugged GPS handhelds, rugged Trimble® Recon™ handhelds, and Trimble Recon GPS series systems. GeoSpatial Experts will also provide Trimble hardware and software as part of a complete enterprise data management solution for both private and public sector clients.
The centerpiece of the partnership will be a package that wirelessly links Trimble receivers to the GPS-ready Ricoh Pro G3 Digital camera via Bluetooth technology. The solution will allow users to geocode the images captured by the Pro G3 with the coordinates from the Trimble GPS receiver. The geocoded photos then have the location information embedded into the image file as metadata.
In addition, GeoSpatial Experts’ GPS-Photo Link software can automatically map photos and locate them on aerial and satellite images and on street and topographic maps. Users can also add background maps with GPS-Photo Link’s ArcView extension.
The Pro G3 has a built-in memo function, so workers can record notes while in the field.
GeoSpatial Experts’ current customer base is varied. FEMA has adopted the Pro G3 to photograph storm damage in the southeast United States, while archeologists in Maine use it to scout out dig sites; GPS-Photo Link is being used by National Parks personnel in the U.S. to track hiking trail conditions; the U.S. military is using it in Iraq to map transport routes; universities, local utilities, insurance agents, realtors, government agencies, engineers, farmers, and even museums are finding that their GIS workflows have been optimized since adopting GPS-Photo Link.
“We wanted to become a Trimble business partner so we can customize our software and the solution to add value to GeoSpatial Experts and Trimble customers alike,” says Linda Bobbitt, vice president of GeoSpatial Experts. “Bundling Trimble GPS receivers and data collectors with GPS-Photo Link and the Ricoh camera will provide a unique and valuable solution to a wide variety of users.”
“This solution allows organizations already using Trimble devices to increase their capabilities and efficiencies,” said Dave Goughnour, Trimble business partner manager. “Having GeoSpatial Experts as a new business partner makes perfect sense. Their innovative and easy-to-use GPS and GIS solutions fully complement Trimble’s hardware and software, offering customers a total solution.”
