Ordnance Survey today announces a free seminar programme for housing associations seeking the benefits of location data for performance, efficiency and customer service.
Leading experts from the Housing Corporation, Audit Commission and housing associations will give practical advice on how geographic information can support the management of social housing.
The seminars, in London and Manchester, reflect growing recognition of the value of location data in helping to meet the Government's decent-homes criteria and longer-term vision for neighbourhood improvement and sustainable communities.
The Housing Corporation, in particular, is highlighting the use of analysis based on geographic information systems (GIS) to help affordable housing providers manage stock more efficiently.
"A growing number of housing associations are referencing their transactions, maintenance requirements, site valuations and inventories to a specific geographical location in a single system," says Ordnance Survey's manager for the housing sector, Phillip Wyndham. "Viewing such information graphically and in layers can be of tremendous benefit by revealing trends and patterns otherwise missed when studying tables and other data separately. Our seminars will offer a geographic focus on excellence in strategic planning, asset management, improved customer care and the fulfilment of legislative and regulatory demands."
The seminars are aimed at all those involved in the delivery of housing association services, including chief executives, asset managers, planners and heads of housing maintenance and tenancy services.
Among the speakers are Alison Brown, the Audit Commission's Lead Housing Inspector for the North East, and David Cheesman, Business Intelligence Manager for the Housing Corporation.
The seminars, titled Delivering performance, efficiency and customer service using location data take place at Manchester City Football Ground on 2 November 2005 and the Holiday Inn, Camden Lock, London, on 29 November.
