ROCHESTER, NY - February 20, 2006 - Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery and measuring software, announced today that it has won an RFP (Request for Proposal) from Geauga County, OH to provide oblique aerial imaging and software for the county and its local municipalities. Pictometry's county-wide licensing agreement enables all municipalities in a participating county to freely have access to the digital aerial photography and GIS software. Located in the upper, northeast region of Ohio, Geauga County encompasses 404 square miles and has a population of over 94,000 residents. The county was founded in 1806 and has 16 townships.
Pictometry's industry leading software enables users to easily access up to 12 different oblique (at an angle, 3D-like) views of any property, building, highway, or other feature in an area. The software also enables users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the oblique imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data.
The county's Auditor's Office is an active user of the Pictometry(r) technology in its daily operations that manages a total parcel value of over $2,845,000,000 in taxable property on an annual basis. "Pictometry has allowed our office to manage our day to day assessment activities with more efficiency. We have been able to eliminate many field trips saving our appraisers hours on the road for an issue that Pictometry can help resolve in minutes," said Geauga County Auditor Tracy A. Jemison, AAS.
As part of the county's six year appraisal verification and review process, the Auditor's Office is evaluating a renewal of Hitachi's automated HouseDiff(r) Change Detection service to be used with Pictometry's Change Analysis software. HouseDiff, offered only through Pictometry, enables a county to more quickly and efficiently review structural changes by comparing old and new aerial images within Pictometry's Change Analysis software. "By using both Pictometry and HouseDiff we have found over one-and-a-half million dollars in new valuations," said Geauga County GIS Director Lou Marion.
Other departments using Pictometry include, but are not limited to, Accounting, Building, Community Development, Engineering, GIS, Map Room, Planning Commission, Real Estate, Water Resources, and any other agency using the county's web GIS application, called Access Geauga. This enterprise-wide, ESRI ArcIMS application enables all networked county agencies to instantly access Pictometry data via a click of a button.
Pictometry is being used in many of the county's local jurisdictions, primarily in township, city, and village building/zoning departments.
Numerous applications for Pictometry in public safety have been implemented at both the local municipal level and the county level. "We are currently using Pictometry in all county Police and Fire emergency response districts, typically in a mobile deployment in the command vehicles, as well as in local offices for task force planning applications. This key application is vital, for not only the first responders but also for dispatch, command and control, and emergency response planning," said Marion. "We are currently working with the County Sheriff and Emergency Dispatch personnel to integrate Pictometry with our current CAD software for a direct 9-1-1 integration that will enable us to better locate inbound calls for service, and will also be utilizing Pictometry at our new county jail."
