ROCHESTER, NY - July 24, 2006 - Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery and measuring software, announced today that Clayton County, GA has deployed its aerial imaging database and software technology to county and municipal agencies. Clayton County occupies 143 square miles south of Atlanta, GA and has an estimated population of over 260,000 residents. Pictometry began taking imagery for the county in January, 2006 and delivered the oblique imaging database in March, 2006.
Pictometry's industry leading software enables all employees of Clayton County to easily access up to 12 different oblique (at an angle,
3D-like) views of any property, building, highway, or other feature in the county. The software also enables county users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the oblique imagery as well as insert and overlay GIS content and other data.
The county GIS department recently hosted a series of training sessions on the geospatial technology. "As one of the most populated counties in the state of Georgia, we are always looking for new ways that will enable our government operations to provide improved and cost-effective services to the public," said Clayton County, GA GIS Manager Brett W.
Lavender. "Pictometry gives us a proven, state-of-the-art solution that will help multiple agencies such as public safety, 9-1-1, Community Development, Transportation and Development, the District Attorney's Office, Tax Assessor, and GIS. Pictometry's training department took our GIS applications to a higher level than where we were before in terms of helping us maximize the uses of Pictometry with our existing technology infrastructure. This is a project with the kind of results of which the county can be proud."
Clayton County has experienced tremendous growth of its GIS department over the past ten months, incorporating applications from multiple agencies and growing its user base. The county currently uses ESRI ArcIMS for GIS and Orion Technology for its 9-1-1 mapping technology.
"We look forward to seamlessly integrating Pictometry in both of these applications through Pictometry's ActiveX-based technology," said Lavender.
