ROCHESTER, NY - October 6, 2006 - Pictometry International Corp., the worldwide leader in digital, aerial oblique imagery and measuring software systems, today announced that Harris County, TX Appraisal District is using the company's aerial imaging technology over the entire area of Harris County to assist in its efforts to provide equal and uniform taxation. Occupying some 1,729 square miles in the southeastern region of Texas, Harris County is home to over 3,630,000 residents (2005 Census estimate).
Pictometry's industry leading software enables users to easily access up to 20 different oblique (at an angle, in a 3D-like manner) views of any property, building, highway, or other feature. The software also enables users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the oblique imagery as well as overlay GIS data and create Real3D(tm). The company also provides additional GIS solutions for ESRI that include an ArcGIS extension, ArcIMS integration, and ArcSDE support, and coordinate pass-through capabilities.
The Appraisal District is tasked with providing valuations for over 1.7 million taxable properties on an annual basis. Pictometry's enterprise-wide software, at no additional cost, allows the appraisal district to support the county's cities, school districts, and over 300 local governments within the county boundaries. The county seat for Harris County, TX is Houston, the nation's fourth most populated city, with an estimated population of over 1,940,000 residents.
Under the Texas Constitution, the Appraisal district is required to provide taxation that is "equal and uniform." Using Pictometry's expansive aerial imaging database of over 1.2 terabytes that cover the county, along with its measuring software, the Appraisal District will be able to ascertain the condition of properties, evaluate adjacent properties, and more accurately assess valuations in a more cost effective manner.
"We are pleased that Harris County Appraisal District chose Pictometry, the worldwide leader in oblique imagery for this important task. This represents Pictometry's tenth county image capture in Texas," said Pictometry Chief Marketing Officer Dante Pennacchia.
