East Cambridgeshire District Council fast track PAI and BLPU creation with Laser-Scan
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

Cambridge, UK, 19th October. East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC) has selected Laser-Scan to provide a cost-effective and rapid eQuality solution for PAI and BLPU extent creation.

The GIS team at ECDC need to ensure that their GI systems are brought into line with Ordnance Survey MasterMap® following their recent Positional Accuracy Improvement (PAI) programme. ECDC have already migrated most of their spatial datasets, but now require assistance with their three business critical datasets: BLPU (Basic Land Property Units), Land Terrier and Land Assets. The delay in migrating these datasets has resulted in Planning Department’s projects being put on hold until the PAI shift is completed. Importantly the Council’s participation in NLIS - the National Land (and Property) Information Service – has not been possible until a master set of BLPUs are created. On a wider scale it is also affecting project resourcing and delaying investment in technology, thereby preventing the council from progressing towards improved electronic service deliveries.

Laser-Scan’s PAI and automated BLPU extent creation service will ensure that: - Work can begin straight away - there is no time delay between signing the contract and getting started, no software installation, no training and no data integration issues. There is a quick turnaround on the data, meaning that there is minimal interference with the day-to-day work within the department.

BLPU extents will be automatically captured from point data, which will improve spatial analysis and visualisation functionality.

ECDC staff are free to work on other projects whilst the services are being completed. Rather than purchasing software, Laser-Scan’s services are more cost-effective, have shorter project timescales and guarantee a high quality of output data.

Jason Littleboy, ICT and Data Support Officer (GIS), East Cambridgeshire District Council commented:

"The eQuality service and software solution offered by Laser-Scan best suited our requirements for completing our PAI project. The new software will enable us to monitor all our spatial data to ensure it is maintained to the high quality standard we have set for ourselves, and all within a limited budget consideration."

Duncan Guthrie, Managing Director, Laser-Scan added:

"After identifying ECDC’s initial requirements, it became clear that Laser-Scan’s expert knowledge and unique technology were the perfect solution for their migration project. As experts in spatial data quality and PAI we look forward to assisting East Cambridgeshire, and will ensure that their datasets are quickly migrated and certified as fit for purpose."

ECDC joins Dartford Borough Council, Selby District Council, Huntingdonshire District Council and Colchester Borough Council as local government organisations that have benefited from Laser-Scan’s expert PAI and BLPU services as a cost-effective solution to a one-off task.
