Cambridge UK, 26th October 2006 - Laser-Scan is delighted to announce that its Vertical Obstruction (VO) project for No. 1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (AIDU), Royal Air Force UK, and its Digital Mapping project for Land Registry Ireland (LRI) have both been selected as finalists for the prestigious BCS 2006 Information Management Awards (IM2006).
Laser-Scan has successfully completed an extension to the Aeronautical Production System (APS), winner of the AGI Award 2005 for Innovation and Best Practice in Central Government, providing further quality benefits and efficiencies for No. 1 AIDU. The primary objective of the Vertical Obstruction (VO) project was to extend the APS to provide an automated capability for determining incremental VO changes to a variety of product ranges: Low Flying Charts, Chart Amendments to Low Flyers and Military AIP.
The Digital Mapping System (DMapS) is a project that is the result of a successful bid made to LRI by Laser-Scan, following a competition run through the Official Journal of the European Community (OJEC). DMapS is a web-based, digital mapping system for recording and accessing spatial information relating to Land Title in Ireland. LRI is now benefiting from a state-of-the-art solution that places the organisation at the forefront of international land registration developments.
The IM2006 Awards, now in their eleventh year, are the premier European recognition of excellence and innovation in the management of business information. They are fiercely contested in the IT and business world. From over 500 European-wide entries, No. 1 AIDU and Land Registry Ireland have been shortlisted as finalists in the GIS category. The winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner, Thursday 7th December 2006 at the Grosvenor House, London.
