SYDNEY, Aust., September 21, 2006— Open Spatial Australia today announced City West Water, one of Melbourne’s three metropolitan retail water businesses has chosen its Enterprise Spatial Data Management approach with the intent of improving its operational efficiency while taking its customer service to new levels.

City West Water is owned by the Victorian Government and provides drinking water, wastewater, trade waste and recycled water services to approximately 276,000 residential and 31,300 non-residential (industrial and commercial) customers in Melbourne’s Central Business District and western suburbs. City West Water’s boundaries extend to Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melbourne (north of the Yarra River), Moonee Valley, Wyndham, Yarra and parts of Melton and Hume.

The Open Spatial solution for City West Water will comprise Munsys an award winning and popular Spatial Data Capture and Spatial Data Management business application. Munsys is now used by 30% of urban water authorities in Victoria, Australia. Munsys delivers efficiency and productivity improvements through Engineering Best Practices capturing and managing Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Assets.

Users throughout City West Water will have access to accurate maps through a browser based solution (Enlighten) that is the same for both office staff and crews out in the field. Enlighten is an innovative solution based on Internet and Web Services technologies which will be totally integrated with the organisation’s Field Operations Case Utility System (FOCUS from ViryaNet).

The solution is based on Autodesk and Oracle Locator technologies to deliver robust commercial grade business applications specific to the Water and Wastewater businesses.

Matthew Giesemann, General Manager Engineering at City West Water said: “The solution has an enterprise approach which goes beyond traditional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) implementations. The ability to spatially enable our critical applications will improve business process and ultimately our bottom line. City West Water is committed to Geospatial Information Technology to improve our productivity and better target the delivery of our services.”

Enterprise Spatial Data Management is designed to improve data quality, data accuracy, data integrity and remote data availability. This means water utilities have better information with which to make their business decisions. Open Spatial Australia is the leading geospatial solutions company in Australia Water and Wastewater businesses and have provided a solution which allows for seamless interoperability between critical business systems that adds a new dimension to corporate information.

LogicaCMG have been engaged by Open Spatial Australia to project manage and deliver integration services for the project.

“We are delighted to participate in this joint project with City West Water and Open Spatial. With proven methodology, a strong track record in GIS implementation and extensive energy and utilities expertise, LogicaCMG is ideally positioned to assist organisations as they realise the benefits of geo spatial technology.” said Tony Rumble, Managing Director of Business Solutions, LogicaCMG in Australia.

Anthony Jahshan Managing Director at Open Spatial Australia commented: “We brought together the best geospatial minds from within our organisation and within LogicaCMG to deliver this project. Our project has a high level of visibility internally at City West Water and we are eager to meet the challenges set before us to deliver on time and on budget.”

LogicaCMG will act as overall project managers and Systems Integrators with direct project involvement and deliverables, allowing Open Spatial to focus on product improvements and act in a product specialist consulting role.

“Together with City West Water we believe it was the people we assembled for the project that was a main contributing factor towards being awarded the contract, and that is without taking anything away from our award winning solutions.” said Anthony Jahshan Open Spatial Australia.

The Enlighten component of the Open Spatial solution provides a single-user interface into an organisation’s corporate application databases, placing emphasis on minimising data redundancies and data duplication experienced by traditional GIS applications. Enlighten is a totally Australian built product that is capable of isolating the valves to close when a pipe leak occurs in the field. It will also advise crews immediately which properties will be affected by the planned outage of water services, which significantly reduces the turnaround time required by traditional methods.

”Open Spatial Australia has positioned itself as the undeniable geospatial leader in the water and wastewater industry in Australia. We have made it our business objective to understand the water and wastewater businesses so that we can deliver solutions to their business problems” added Jahshan.

Oracle’s improved geospatial capability within their object relational database has created opportunities for companies, like Open Spatial Australia, to focus on niche markets and build Enterprise Business Solutions that deliver fast returns on investment.
