Carbon Project’s Gaia 3 Selected for Regional Interoperability
Printer Friendly versionPrinter Friendly

The Carbon Project today announced its Gaia 3 software was selected to support the 2007 National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Cooperative Agreement Program (CAP) under a project grant called “Framework NSDI and Beyond”.

The “Framework NSDI and Beyond” Project is a collaborative effort between the North Carolina Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (NC DENR), the City of Charlotte, NC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), CubeWerx, The Carbon Project and the geoLeaders Network.

The effort will engage State, County and Municipal government organizations and extend Gaia 3 with next-generation capabilities to access and use NSDI Framework Data through Web Feature Services (WFS) for environmental incident response. The resulting application will be free and make NSDI Framework Data accessible and usable to everyone, everywhere.

Gaia 3 is a free application that lets you seamlessly access and use a vast array of location content and services from your Windows desktop – including WMS, WFS, WCS and GML, Microsoft Virtual Earth, Yahoo! Maps, Google Earth KML/KMZ, ESRI Shapefiles and more.

The NSDI includes the technology, policies, criteria, standards and people necessary to promote geospatial information sharing throughout all levels of government, the private and non-profit sectors, and academia. The NSDI Cooperative Agreements Program was established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) to help form partnerships among organizations to implement the NSDI.
